Setting Up Your Email Program to Receive Mail

There are many email programs in use today.  Here are the steps needed to setup your new email account in Outlook Express 6 for your email account at Open Road Hosting.

Here are the steps to setup a POP account in Outlook Express 6.

Step 1 - Create a new account.

Step 1A - Select the "Tools" menu item and then the "Accounts" item.  The Internet Accounts screen appears.

Step 1B - Select the "Mail" tab.

Step 1C - Select "Add" to add a new mail account.  The Internet Connection Wizard will start.

Step 2 - Go through the Wizard steps.

Step 2A - Enter your display name, the name that you want people to see on your emails - ex, John Smith.

Step 2B - Enter your new email address - ex,  jsmith@openroadhosting.com.

Step 2C - Select incoming mail server type of "POP3".

Step 2D - Enter the incoming email server name, ex. www.mynewsite.com.

Step 2E - Enter the outgoing mail SMTP server name, ex. sbcglobal.net.

Step 2F - Enter your username and password.

Step 2G - Click on the finish button.

Step 3 - Setup the mail relay security

Step 3A - Select the "Tools" menu item and then the "Accounts" item.  The Internet Accounts screen appears.

Step 3B - Select the "Mail" tab.

Step 3C - Highlight the new email account by clicking on it.

Step 3D - Click "Properties" from the right hand menu.

Step 3E - Click the "Servers" tab at the top.

Step 3F - At the bottom, check the box labeled "My Server Requires Authentication".

Step 3G - Click the "Settings" button to the right.

Step 3H - Make sure the check box labeled "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is checked and then click "OK".

Step 3I - Click "OK" to accept the changes.

Step 4 - Test the setup.

Step 4A - Send an email to your own address using your new account. 

Step 4B - Wait for the email to be relayed back to you (usually no more than a couple of minutes) and then check to see if you have received that email.  If you have received it then you have setup your email correctly.  If you do not receive your email then check your bulk mail to make sure that it didn't get directed to bulk email.  If you don't find it there and you are still not sure what to do then call us.  We'll help you get it setup.
