Using FrontPage to Transfer Your Website from Your Old Host to OpenRoadHosting.com

You have a new account and you want to transfer your website to our server yourself.  That’s great!  We are here to help.  Here are the steps you should take to make the transfer.  These instructions assume that you have a working knowledge of FrontPage basics.

What you will need

You’ll need the following information:

• FrontPage Login

• FrontPage Password

• IP Address

Step 1 – Make sure you have the site in FrontPage and ready to publish.

Assuming you already have the website available, just open FrontPage and open your website.  Goto Step 3.

If you don’t have the website in your PC or to make sure that you have the latest version that resides on your old host do the following.

Step 2A – Open FrontPage.

Step 2B – Select the “File” menu and then select “Open Web”

Step 2C – Enter the full URL of your website, ex: http://www.mysite.com

Step 2D – Select the "File" menu and then select "Publish Web"

Step 2E – Select the destination of the website on your local hard disk.

The website will import to your PC.  Once you have it imported then you can publish it to the new server.

Step 2 – Publish your web pages to the OpenRoadHosting server

Step 3A - Select the "File" menu and the select "Open Web"

Step 3B - Browse to your local copy of your website and select it

Step 3C - Select the “File” menu and then select “Publish”

Step 3D – Enter your FrontPage username and password

Step 3E - Enter the location of your new site – ex. http://216.55.140.XXX

If a dialogue box appears and warns you that there is a file of the same name already present, then select replace old file with new file.

Step 3 – Remove the temporary webpage.

There may be a temporary homepage in your website.  Look for a file in your FrontPage file list called “index.html”.  There is also a file called “index.htm”.  The file “index.html” is the old file and it should be renamed.  Click it and rename it to something like “index.html.default”.

Step 4 – Test the new server.

Using your browser, type in the address of your site, ex: http://216.55.140.XXX.
